Cali 2010: Day 1 Down

Day 1 is under our belts! So far this trip has been a ton of fun! Spent half of day one driving and the other half at the beach. I never knew that boogie boarding could be so much fun! Big props to Angel for teaching me how to read the waves and Chris and Kaylin Bennet for bringing the boards. I had a great time. As the sun started setting, we looked out over the crashing waves and saw a small pod of dolphins swimming. Some of them even got to within 100 yards of the shore. They are quite amazing.

Post beach fun, we sat and just admired the sunset, knowing that God has a special task for us this week…Open Your Eyes!

Change Your Definition

I came across a good post on Pastor Steven Furtick’s blog today. In it he talks about how the issue with the American church is not that we need more depth in our study of the bible, but rather our depth needs to start forming from our application of the truth that we are discovering. This post echoes a lot of what I feel God teaching me right now. I feel like I have gained a lot of theological knowledge, but need something more. God requires more than just our cognitive comprehension of His existence and purpose for our lives. We have to act on that knowledge. We have to step into the purpose that we have been given.

Now What Are You Going to Do About It?

Posted by admin | Church Stuff, God, Relationships, Service | Sunday 28 June 2009 1:00 pm

Over the past week we have seen the passing of a few well-known celebrities. A couple of the blogs that I frequent have, consequently, written posts about our time here on earth. “How are we taking full advantage of the opportunities we are given,” “What will be your legacy,” seem to be the gist of the messages. So I guess my question spurs off of those first thoughts:

Now that we have a perspective, a new lens to look at life through, what are you going to do about it?

For me it can’t be only about seeing that we aren’t guaranteed 50+ years of life. We have to take something much bigger and deeper away from this; because if we don’t, in a week or month, after everything calms down and life returns to “normal,” then we haven’t gone anywhere, we have ceased to capitalize on the perspective we’ve gained. So what are you changing to make a bigger impact? Are you changing the way you work, changing the relationships that you are building, changing the way you worship? Are you being set free by Christ’s power and, more importantly, are you taking this freedom to others?

Examine, evaluate your life. Don’t leave it where it is. Don’t be content where you are! Could you ever get close enough to the Creator of the universe? Dig, explore the depths of His beauty and greatness! Continue to press into Him! Press On!
