The Bright Sadness

This is the title of Charlie Hall’s newest album that I had neglected purchasing for the past few months since its release. What a mistake! This album is pretty good. Lyrics seem to be the focal point of the songs on this album, but what powerful words they are. One of the songs, entitled “Hookers and Robbers”, has particularly captivated my focus since getting it last night. I don’t want to type all of the lyrics up, so I found a video on YouTube that does it plenty of justice. Enjoy!

What To Pray For…

Posted by admin | Church Stuff, Worship | Monday 26 January 2009 5:54 pm

I know that many times when I try to pray, I get lost in things that pop into my head that don’t seem to be relevant. As an alumnus of the course, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, I receive periodic emails to encourage, inspire, and motivate towards a life pursuing the heart of God. The most recent one I received had a post titled “What to Pray For”. It linked to an article from desiringgod.org, the website for John Piper. In the article Dr. Piper essentially makes a list of what early Christians prayed for. If you have even wondered what to pray for, you should go read this article!

TRUE[ish]

Posted by admin | Church Stuff, Family, Media, Worship | Sunday 25 January 2009 6:46 pm

So LifeChurch.tv has just finished its second week of the series TRUE[ish]. Let me tell you, if you want to be challenged in the way you live your life, you have to check it out! The primary issues with truth that we as people in America face today can be traced back to two key ingredients, subjectivism and relativism. I can’t possibly put anything else down about the series without having to go into it all, so I encourage you all to listen to the podcasts or watch the videos online. You won’t be dissappointed.

A Post for the Ages

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Thursday 15 January 2009 12:34 pm

…Or at least after a few ages. I apologize for my inability to find time to post over the past month or so, but it is quite difficult to get on the computer any more. It seems like everyone is playing games or looking up stuff for reports. But all excuses aside, I have dearly missed updating the happenings on our life out here in AZ.

Denise and I had the privaledge to attend SWITCH last night (SWITCH is the LifeChurch.tv youth). Man, let me tell you, IT ROCKED! Steven and the rest of the leadership did a great job not only with the worship but with interacting with the students. The message last night was based on the movie Iron Man. In the movie, the main character, Tony Stark, is a genius who designs weapons, missles and such and sells them to the US government. After a demonstration of his newest designed “Jericho” missle, his convoy is attacked by militants who hold him captive. Through his captivity and eventual escape by building his first “iron man” suit, his heart is changed by seeing the destruction his weapons have caused around the world. He then resolves to change the business that has brought him so much fame and fortune.

The challenge throughout the message was simple. We have all been given gifts, abilities and talents that God has designed for us to use on Him, but do we use them for that purpose or on ourselves? So I pose that question to all who read, myself included. So reflect on it and let it sit in. Are you going to use everything, that means every thing, that you have been blessed with to follow Christ and His will for your life?
