Faith Without It
I was reading during my quiet time recently and something clicked that should have earlier. I think it had been clear when I first became a believer but has since become a distant memory, or so it would seem. Here’s the verse:
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
-Rom. 5:1
So here’s what struck me. It’s a simple word. It’s “faith”. I got a reply to a tweet that I had posted about God always being there. I went on to search this person’s timeline, just to try to find out more about the person who sent the reply. From what I could see, they are either an atheist or poly-theist. So as I read this verse, this person came to mind. A conversation of sorts about God. And this verse tells us, faith is what is needed. That is why so many people have trouble with God…faith.
Then I took a look at believers. And here’s a question I have to ask…it is inspired by Francis Chan’s mentality toward faith/believing: Do we really have faith? I mean if we had a faith that really meant something to us, wouldn’t we live our lives differently? Are we not challenged by this?
I don’t know what to do with that awareness besides changing the way I do things. I don’t know how I can say I have faith, but live as though the faith I have received is on a coffee break.
How big is our God? That was my question when I lived as one who had active faith. How big is our God, I would push into knowing that more. Our faith can’t be based on something we can contain…how big is your God? What is there He can’t do? How is your faith showing you more the depths of God?
